Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM functional specifications

Pieter Rijlaarsdam, 06 april 2011
With mobility being more and more embedded in everyday life, people expect more every day concerning functionality on the mobile phone. Users expect business software to be made available on the mobile phone.
We all know that business users expect their business software to be as user-friendly as any other software. This of course will not surprise you. This also means though that business users will also expect to have business information on their mobile phone, just the way they get it with other business software.
With currently over 300.000 apps in the Apple Appstore, lots of which combine data from the internet with local iPhone functionality, you KNOW business users will expect this from their business software as well.
With the speed of evolution of mobile devices and the current and expected diversity of mobile standards, it has been proven difficult to create cost-efficient software which supports multiple devices.
Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM is one of the answers from SAP to live up to these expectations.

Over the past 2 years, developers from both Sybase and SAP have been working together to create and further improve the mobile applications for SAP CRM. As full local integration was one of the main factors in the development process, you can expect a fully integrated application that has the look and feel you would expect from the specific device. For instance, the iPhone application will be a real iPhone-like app, and the Blackberry App will be a real Blackberry-looking app.
Supported by the Sybase Unwired Platform, the data flow logic is independent of the application it talks to.
So even though all applications have a separate look-and-feel, when talking to the CRM system, they all speak the same language due to the Sybase Unwired Platform that translates the information between the device and the backend.
Now that you know you don’t have to worry about native integration and smooth data transfer between device and system, we can focus on the functionality incorporated in the mobile application. Even though all screenshots are iPhone screenshots, you can expect the same functionality in the other applications.
Information on the device
The information that is automatically downloaded to the device consists of the accounts, contacts, activities, opportunties and leads. The accounts to be downloaded to the device are determined by the account portfolio of the user. All other objects are determined by looking for the related objects to these accounts.
The data is downloaded to the device locally, and thus is available both online and offline. So even if the data connection is not always available, you will still be able to lookup customer information. When updating information in the system whilst offline, the data will be automatically synchronized once a data connection is available again.
Searching Accounts
Searching customers in the application is easy. Just open the customer search option from the home screen of the application, and either scroll through your accounts or start typing to filter in the list. You can find the account you are looking for in a matter of seconds. Easy!
From the account view, you can navigate to the accounts contacts, activities, opportunities etcetera. You will also be able to update the account information and even for instance plan a new visit.
Searching Contacts
When searching for contacts (contact persons), it doesn’t matter if you type part of the name of the person you are looking for or part of the company name (or both), you will find the person you are looking for in seconds. From the contacts screen, you will have the same possibilities as you have in the accounts screen.
Searching Activities, Leads and Opportunities
You can also search for activities, leads or opportunities in your mobile device. This enables you to focus on these most important customers. You will be able to plan better, and faster, because you have all necessary information at your fingertips.
Notifications
When set-up correctly, you will be notified via the mobile application of new or updated opportunities and leads on your customers, enabling you to act immediately on changing situations, such as an updated opportunity or a new hot lead.
Analytics
The good-looking graphs are part of the analytics possibilities of the application. The analytics will give you an instant overview of the current opportunity pipeline, and enable you to get a quick overview of the opportunities that need your attention most.
In order not to fool the users, analytics are retrieved from the system online, and thus are always accurate and up to date, and take the whole system into account, not just the user’s account portfolio.
